We are raising money for the Phillipines and we brought in $57.10! That's almost $2 per child.
We are a class of 25 Year 2 and 3 students. This blog is used as a portal for the students to access out learning sites. We use Seesaw to share our learnings with our families.

New Maths Links
There are new links to telling the time as that will be our focus for a couple of weeks in class. One thing you can do at home is time yourself at how long it takes you to complete certain tasks (brushing your teeth, walking to the letter box, kicking the ball 20 times in the air) and then multiply that by the amount of times you would do that a week. You might be surprised at the results!!
Walking to the letter box=4mins
4mins x 7 days=????
Sleeping=9 and a half hours per night
9.5 x 7=????

Goal: Perserverance with a task
The children commented on ways in which they were able to think through situations and circumstances, showing perserverance. I felt like a very proud teacher!!
Context: Explorers
The four activities were able to give different platforms for the children to explore and learn about explorers. Rock Art was given the purpose of creating memories when you had finished your adventurous journey or exploration, building gave the children a chance to design equipment that a climber might use when scaling mountainous terrain, marble and tracks explored the concept of crossing large caverns and what you might need to think about, and the use of blocks looked at what you might build for the people who let you scale their local mountain.
Next weeks goal: Managing Ourselves to tidy up on time to get out to morning tea!

Sir Edmund Hillary
These are some questions that room 2 came up with for our Inquiry topics!
Why did you choose to be an explorer?
How did sir Edmond Hillary influence the Tibetan people with his generosity?
How did Mount Everest change your life?
Who influenced sir Edmond Hillary's life?
What equipment is needed to climb Mount Everest?
What food requirements were needed to climb Mount Everest?
What are the ten most important things to remember when climbing?

Discovery Time 12th Aug
Goal=Sharing
Lesson to be learnt=Treat people how you want to treated
For Discovery Time we had musical instruments, make a maga, cups, and weaving with flax and paper. People shared instruments with other people and the one we shared the most with was make a 'maga'. We had to make votes out of ten with our hands and some people voted harshly and others voted nicely. Make a maga was making magazines out of magazines. The internet was annoying so Mr C was helping us come up with good weaving ideas. It was easier just splitting them and using them as a ninja sword. Some of us played on musical instruments and we sat down on the cardboard and Hamish and Ben slipped into the cardboard crack. Drum kits were made by some of the boys and Laura and others made marching bands. Our ideas for next time:
- Wood
- Wool
- Baking
- Beads and string
- Sacks
- Model planes
- Cans
- Ropes
- Flax
- Paper mache/Paper plates
- Sewing
- Paper planes

Some statements that we were telling ourselves when we were perservering:
- "try and finish it off"
- "keep doing it even though it becomes frustrating"
- "keep on trying and when I mess up I won't make a big fuss about it"
- "I had a pattern stuck in my head and I told myself to keep doing it"
- "If I keep trying and learn now I could be a great knitter in the future"

Room 2 Term 3
A huge welcome back to you all from your holidays and it was great to see all the children after a couple of weeks break. Remember there is still time to post your Holiday Experience up on the Holiday Experience page of the blog. Well done to LW, LZ, TY, and HP for their contributions already. Every Monday we are going to be completing Discovery Time as a class and this provides a great starter to to week as it is a student-led learning environment that our school is implementing this term. Next Monday there are some resources we need to collect so we can complete Discovery Time and the proposed activities. If you have any sections of ropes or long ropes that the children could borrow, then could it be sent to class in a plastic bag or something similar to with your name on so it can be returned to you when we are finished using it. I also need an expert finger knitter or expert needle knitter to take an activity next Monday from 9-10:30. Please contact me at school if you have the time and are keen. Reading and Spelling books will arrive home on Tuesday! We are focusing on Managing Self for the term and it would be great to have a conversation with your child about how well they do this and what they could do to improve their management of themselves at school and at home.

Discovery Time 29th July
Our focus for this mornings session was based on the concept of 'Journey's'. There were three different activities the children could choose from and they were: Sponges/Paint, Lego, and Wood/Tools. Our Key Competency this term is Managing Self and the children completed this really well. Lots of smiles and great conversation!

Natureland won the vote!!!
Things we need to think about to organise our trip:
Fundraise money for the trip (we could sell feijoas, apple juice) How much does it cost to go?
How do we get there? How do we choose who goes (parents)?
Figure out what we are going to find information about. Research what programmes and animals Natureland has that we could look into. Create a voting system on the blog once we have researched the possibilities.
What we need to take with us when we go?
Some children didn't vote for Natureland so they are suggesting we could watch a movie a school. Maybe we could watch a movie about the animal we look into at Natureland.
SO MANY THINGS TO GET READY!

Class Reward Voting
Today the children discussed what they were going to do for their class reward that they earned last term. The class has to achieve 50 marbles that are given out for various tasks (mainly for them working together really well). We discussed what we could do if there were no limits to our experience and here are their responses:
Hunting and Fishing Week/Movies at Disneyland/Go to the moon/Travel the whole world/Paintball fight/Buy a house and private jet/Go to Disneyland forever/Play Station party where you get to be part of the game/Laser tag on Pluto/Travel to the sun/Everyone gets a pet.
These next ones are going to be the options the kids can vote on. They should be able to leave a comment as an anonymous user with their initials at the end of the comment to show what they are voting for:
Trip to Natureland to study an animal
Forest walk to study insects
Pyjama/Dress up party
Game of Capture the Flag
Shared lunch to see everyone's cooking talents
Go to the movies (this would include fundraising for the event and complete organisation by the children, which means it may not happen for a while)
Get voting!!

Wet Day Board Games/Games
I have talked to the children about bringing in one wet day game or board game to keep themselves occupied. These need to be cleared by you as the parents before they bring the games in and once the game is here it is their responsibility to make sure all the equipment has been collected up and taken home. I hope this post clarifies what the children might be struggling to explain to you. I will be trying to use this type of communication in the future so please check the blog regularly for notes and notices. MR C

Weekly Reflection Week 10 Term 1
This week we are reflecting on our appropriate use of technology (Ipad/Desktop) in the classroom.
Here are 5 of our students responses:
Here are 5 of our students responses:
- We have been 9% better at going on the Ipad and desktop and using the correct games and links. CD
- We are probably ahhhhh, 8 out of 10 on the computer and on the Ipad, 10 out of 10. HiP
- We haven't been doing very good because we are going onto 'Cool Maths Games' which isn't an option for using the Ipad or desktop. EB
- We have been at about 6 out of 10 for going onto things that we shouldn't be on when we are doing our learning. AS
- We are good on the Ipad because it shows us clearly where what we can use. We aren't so good on the desktop. LW
- Doing catch up rather than going on the computer.
- Don't get to use the Ipad or desktop for the rest of the day.
- For two activities sessions you will have to complete practice.
